The Code Seminar: Read & Write Tango

For over 20 years, Andres Amarilla has been using a notation system that he created, "The Code," to read & write tango.  It forms the basis of how Andres & Meredith understand tango, communicate in improvisation, remember class plans and choreographies, and give structure to our dance.

Reading & writing tango allows us to engage more deeply with the dance:

  • * It provides tools to analyze and gain insight into tango musicality.
  • * It helps us understand the relationship between leader and follower movements.
  • * It helps us understand the links between steps (i.e. ocho, grapevine or alteration)
  • * It helps us record and remember what we learn in class, or what we invent.
  • * It clarifies tango terms and movements and helps us "think" tango better.  "Thinking" tango clearly helps us dance tango better.

Meredith always says that she wouldn't have started the Philadelphia Argentine Tango School without the clarity about tango that The Code provided her.

Come explore The Code in a two-day workshop.  We will be moving and dancing throughout, even as we read & write tango.
